Atlanta, GA (BuzzReport) — A late-night shooting inside one of Atlanta’s most popular public spaces has left one woman dead and a teenage girl injured, prompting an ongoing homicide investigation. According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers assigned to Zone 5 responded to reports of gunfire at Piedmont Park at approximately 9:03 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2026. Upon arrival, officers discovered two female victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced one woman dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her identity pending notification of next of kin. The second victim, identified as a 15-year-old girl, was found alert, conscious, and breathing. She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been publicly disclosed. Investigators say the shooting occurred hours after a permitted festival had concluded on the opposite side of the park around 7:45 p.m. Officials emphasized that, at this time, there is no indication the earlier event is connected to the violence. Preliminary findings suggest the incident may have stemmed from an unpermitted gathering near the far west end of the park. Authorities have not clarified how many individuals were involved or what led to the gunfire. Detectives with the Atlanta Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No suspects have been publicly identified, and it remains unclear whether anyone has been taken into custody. The incident has raised renewed concerns about safety in public spaces, particularly during large gatherings and after-hours activity in the park. Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact Atlanta Police or Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
