Escambia County, FL (BuzzReport) — An attempted traffic stop over a switched license plate escalated into a late-night pursuit and crash, ending with the arrest of a Pensacola man, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The incident unfolded just before 1 a.m. along North Blue Angel Parkway, where a trooper observed an SUV displaying a Florida registration tag that did not match the vehicle. When the trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver refused to comply and fled the scene, prompting a pursuit.

Authorities say the chase continued through parts of Escambia County before the driver lost control of the vehicle. The SUV veered off the roadway and ultimately crashed into a fence at the intersection of Patricia Drive and Oakcliff Road.

The driver, identified as 46-year-old Marvin Thomas of Pensacola, was not injured in the crash. Following the incident, troopers discovered Thomas had an outstanding warrant out of Escambia County.

He was taken into custody and is now facing charges of felony fleeing and eluding law enforcement, as well as driving with a suspended license.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the investigation remains ongoing. Additional details, including what led to the initial tag discrepancy and whether further charges may be filed, have not yet been released.
