Mobile County, AL (BuzzReport)— The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) has launched an active investigation following multiple reports of a large, unidentified figure—described by witnesses as resembling “Bigfoot”—in a rural, wooded area of north Mobile County. According to officials, deputies were dispatched at approximately 6:42 a.m. on March 17, 2026, after several residents contacted authorities to report a tall, hairy figure moving along a property line before disappearing into dense woodland. Witnesses consistently described the subject as standing between 7 and 9 feet tall and moving with what they called “unusual speed.” Responding deputies, along with the MCSO Rural Enforcement Unit and K-9 teams, initiated a grid search of the area shortly after arriving on scene. Investigators reported discovering a series of oversized footprints that do not appear to match known wildlife native to the region. Additional findings included disturbed vegetation and what authorities have labeled as “unconfirmed vocalizations” heard during the search. “Our deputies take every call seriously, no matter how unusual,” said Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch in a statement. “While we have not yet confirmed the identity of the subject, we are actively investigating all possibilities and following the evidence wherever it leads.” The sheriff’s office emphasized that, despite the unusual nature of the reports, there is currently no indication of an immediate threat to public safety. However, deputies will maintain an increased presence in the area as a precaution while the investigation continues. Residents in nearby communities are being urged to remain vigilant, secure outdoor food sources that could attract wildlife, and report any additional sightings or suspicious activity to authorities. Officials are also asking anyone with video footage or firsthand encounters to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation. While sightings of large, unidentified creatures are rare in the region, authorities say all evidence will be carefully examined as they work to determine whether the reports can be attributed to known wildlife, misidentification, or another explanation. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
