Canton, MS (BuzzReport) — Authorities in Canton are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred Monday morning, leaving one man dead and prompting an ongoing investigation.

According to Canton Police Chief Otha Brown, officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 10 a.m. on Third Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered 35-year-old Terrance Williams had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chief Brown confirmed that a person of interest has been taken into custody and is currently being questioned in connection with the shooting. No charges have been announced at this time.

Investigators said Williams had been in the neighborhood mourning the loss of his father, who had passed away earlier that same day, adding another layer of tragedy to the incident.

Chief Brown also expressed appreciation for the community’s swift response, noting that witnesses and residents quickly contacted authorities, aiding officers in their initial response and investigation.

This incident marks the second homicide reported in the city of Canton so far this year.
