Jacksonville, FL (BuzzReport) — Newly obtained details are shedding light on the tragic shooting death of 2-year-old A’mahri Robinson, an incident that authorities say unfolded during a domestic dispute late Sunday night.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the child was fatally shot while inside a residence where an argument had escalated. Investigators say the violence erupted between individuals inside the home, ultimately leading to gunfire.

The BuzzReport has learned that the child’s mother told police the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Steven Dodson, allegedly fired a gun in her direction while she was holding A’mahri. The bullet struck the toddler, causing fatal injuries.

Authorities confirmed that Dodson is the child’s stepfather, adding a deeply troubling dimension to the case as investigators continue to piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

Following the incident, Dodson fled the scene. Law enforcement launched an intensive search and successfully located and arrested him less than 24 hours later. He is currently in custody facing charges related to the child’s death.

Officials have not yet released additional details about the nature of the domestic dispute or whether there were prior calls to the residence.

Dodson is scheduled to appear in court for his next hearing on April 15.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
