Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A Mobile man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in a case involving the abuse of a vulnerable adult at a group home in Mobile County. According to court records from Mobile County Circuit Court, Kevin “Kandice” Franklin, 25, of Mobile, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, which will be split to serve three years in custody, followed by additional time under supervision. Franklin previously pleaded guilty to abuse of a protected person in connection with an incident that occurred in June 2022 at the Nobles Group Home in Chickasaw. Authorities said Franklin was arrested after investigators determined that he poured boiling water on a 52-year-old resident of the facility. The victim was described as having physical and mental disabilities, making him legally classified as a protected person under Alabama law. The incident prompted a criminal investigation that ultimately led to Franklin’s arrest and prosecution. Officials said the case highlighted concerns about the safety and treatment of vulnerable individuals living in residential care facilities. Under the split sentence, Franklin will serve three years in prison, with the remaining portion of the 10-year sentence suspended under the terms set by the court. Court officials did not immediately release additional details regarding the victim’s condition following the incident. The case has now concluded with Franklin’s sentencing, according to court documents.
