Baldwin County, AL (BuzzReport) — Bond has been set for two brothers from Pensacola who were arrested following a traffic stop that escalated into a police chase and crash on the Foley Beach Express, leaving a motorcyclist seriously injured.

According to authorities, 26-year-old Blake Lewis appeared in court Wednesday, where a judge set his bond at $30,000. Blake Lewis is charged with obstructing justice after allegedly providing deputies with a false name during the traffic stop, as well as attempting to elude law enforcement.

His younger brother, 21-year-old Max Lewis, who investigators say was driving the vehicle, faces more serious charges. A judge set his bond at $65,000 on charges of felony attempting to elude law enforcement and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury.

Investigators with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office say the incident began Tuesday afternoon when deputies conducted a traffic stop on the Foley Beach Express for a seat belt violation. During the stop, one of the deputies reportedly recognized the vehicle as one that had been involved in a separate pursuit over the weekend.

Prosecutors told the court that after initially pulling over, Max Lewis suddenly accelerated and fled from deputies, nearly striking a sport utility vehicle as he sped away. Moments later, the fleeing vehicle crashed into a motorcyclist, who authorities said sustained severe injuries.

Following the crash, prosecutors say both brothers attempted to escape on foot. Blake Lewis was quickly apprehended near the wreckage after being tackled by deputies, while Max Lewis ran into nearby woods.

Deputies launched a search of the area and later located Max Lewis near a nearby RV park, where he was taken into custody.

Authorities also reported that during a search of the vehicle, deputies discovered a handgun and marijuana inside.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the judge ruled that both brothers must wear GPS ankle monitors if they are released from jail on bond while awaiting further court proceedings.

The condition of the injured motorcyclist has not yet been publicly updated, and the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
