DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (BuzzReport) — The body of a missing boater has been recovered off the coast of Dauphin Island following an extensive, multi-agency search effort.
The United States Coast Guard confirmed that 54-year-old Travis White, a Montgomery native who currently lived in Georgia, was reported missing early Tuesday morning after failing to return from a fishing trip the day before.
According to officials, the Coast Guard received a call from one of White’s friends who became concerned when he did not come back as planned. Search crews were immediately launched to comb the waters south of Dauphin Island.
By Tuesday afternoon, responders located White’s boat on the water. However, there was no sign of him at that time, intensifying concerns about his safety.
A coordinated search operation was launched involving multiple agencies, including the Daphne Search and Rescue, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the Alabama Marine Resources Division, and the Blackhawke Aviation Foundation. Crews searched by both air and water in an effort to locate White.
Authorities later confirmed that White’s body was recovered. Details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not yet been released.
Officials have not said what may have led to the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Dauphin Island is a popular destination for fishing and boating, particularly as warmer weather approaches. Authorities remind boaters to ensure safety equipment is onboard and to inform someone of their travel plans before heading out on the water.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
