MIAMI, FL (BuzzReport) — Three boys in Miami have been charged as adults following a violent sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl at a community garden in the Overtown neighborhood, a case prosecutors describe as deeply disturbing and traumatic.

According to investigators, the assault lasted approximately 30 minutes. Court records allege that Jusiah Jones, 12, used rocks to silence the victim while Nelson Nunez, 13, sexually assaulted her. Authorities say Xavier Tyson, now 15, restrained the girl by her arms and legs. Despite the victim repeatedly screaming for them to stop and pleading in pain, the attack continued until the suspects heard her father calling her name nearby, prompting them to flee the area.

A woman in the vicinity reported hearing the girl’s screams and went to investigate. Police also identified a fourth boy who witnessed the incident but told authorities he did not intervene because he feared being assaulted himself.

All three suspects were arrested the following day. On Wednesday, a grand jury indicted each of them to be tried as adults, citing the severity of the allegations and the circumstances of the crime. Jones and Nunez are currently being held without bond. Tyson is also facing adult charges related to the assault.

Prosecutors say the decision to pursue adult charges underscores the seriousness of the offense and the lasting harm inflicted on the victim. The case has sparked renewed concern in the community about youth violence, accountability, and the need for stronger protections for children.

The investigation remains ongoing as the case.
