Traffic Stop in Creola Leads to Drug Arrest, Firearm Seizure

Creola, AL (BuzzReport) — A routine traffic stop late Tuesday night resulted in a drug arrest and the seizure of a firearm, according to the Creola Police Department.

Authorities said that at approximately 10:12 p.m. on February 24, 2026, an officer initiated a traffic stop on a pickup truck traveling southbound on Highway 43 after clocking the vehicle at 67 miles per hour in a posted 50 mph zone.

When officers approached the vehicle, they reportedly observed the driver discard an item from the truck’s window. Upon questioning, the driver admitted to having “a little bit of weed,” police said. Officers retrieved the discarded item, which was identified as a bag containing marijuana.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a Glock 27 handgun inside the truck. Police did not indicate whether the firearm was reported stolen or whether additional weapons-related charges are pending.

The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Creola Jail for processing. He is facing a charge of possession of marijuana in the second degree, second offense. Authorities confirmed the total weight of the recovered marijuana was 60 grams, or approximately 2.1 ounces.

Under Alabama law, possession of marijuana in the second degree is typically classified as a misdemeanor; however, repeat offenses and the presence of a firearm can carry enhanced legal consequences depending on the circumstances.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not yet released the identity of the suspect pending formal charging procedures.
