Suspect Arrested in Ohio Following Deadly Double Shooting in Huntington

Huntington, WV (BuzzReport) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a double homicide that occurred early February 20 in the 300 block of 14th Street, according to the Huntington Police Department.

Detectives and forensic investigators have been working extensively on the case since officers responded to reports of gunfire around 2:30 a.m. Authorities say two men — Adrian Phillips and Derious Johnson — were shot and killed during the incident. A third victim was also shot and remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Following an intensive investigation, detectives identified the suspect as 27-year-old Kevante White of Akron. On Saturday, February 21, warrants were obtained charging White with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Phillips and Johnson. An additional warrant for felony malicious wounding was issued in relation to the surviving victim.

Investigators determined that White fled West Virginia shortly after the shooting and traveled back to Ohio. Assistance was requested from the US Marshals Service to locate and apprehend him.

On Sunday, February 22, White was taken into custody in Stark County by members of the Stark County Sheriff’s Officeand the U.S. Marshals Service. Authorities confirmed he was arrested on the outstanding West Virginia warrants for two counts of first-degree murder and malicious wounding.

White is currently being held in a Stark County correctional facility as a fugitive from justice while awaiting extradition to West Virginia.

The Huntington Police Department credited multiple agencies for their assistance in the investigation and arrest, including the Cabell County Prosecutor’s Office, WV Fusion Center, the U.S. Marshals Service Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force — which includes the Akron Police Department, Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Medina County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, Portage County Sheriff’s Office — as well as the U.S. Marshals Service Southern District of West Virginia CUFFED Task Force–Huntington Division.
