Semmes, AL (BuzzReport) — Authorities have taken John Micheal Byrd into custody following an intense law enforcement operation in Semmes that involved multiple agencies and the use of a K-9 unit. According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, Byrd was located and arrested Thursday at a residence in the 5000 block of Nate Drive. Byrd was wanted on two outstanding warrants: Escape in the Second Degree issued by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and a Domestic Violence warrant issued by the Semmes Police Department. Semmes Police requested assistance from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit earlier in the afternoon after Byrd fled into a wooded area near Seibert Road. Deputies and K-9 officers began tracking Byrd through the area when the situation escalated. During the search, authorities report that Byrd fired several shots at deputies while they were actively tracking him. No injuries to law enforcement officers were reported. Despite the dangerous encounter, deputies were able to locate and safely apprehend Byrd. He was taken into custody without further incident and transported for booking. Investigators say additional charges are expected in connection with the shots fired at deputies. The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details at this time. Law enforcement officials emphasized that the coordinated response between agencies was critical in ensuring the suspect’s capture and maintaining public safety.
