Mobile, Ala. (BuzzReport) — Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal shooting on Wesley Avenue as 44-year-old Sanjuanita Coronado. According to the Mobile Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 9:05 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2026, to the 900 block of Wesley Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Coronado inside a residence suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. She was transported from the scene for emergency medical treatment but later succumbed to her injuries, police said. Investigators determined that Coronado had been involved in an altercation with a known male prior to the shooting. That individual was identified as an off-duty police officer with the City of Prichard. The officer was detained for questioning by Mobile Police Department investigators. No charges have been filed at this time. Officials confirmed the case has been forwarded to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office for review. The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the shooting or whether further action will be taken pending the district attorney’s assessment.
