Birmingham, AL (BuzzReport) — A Birmingham man is in custody following a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 20-year-old victim, authorities confirmed.

The Birmingham Police Department announced the arrest of 22-year-old Kenyardus McCall, a Birmingham resident, in connection with a homicide investigation stemming from a Friday night shooting on February 13, 2026.

The victim has been identified as Eric Clayton, 20, of Birmingham.

According to police, officers were dispatched at approximately 7:32 p.m. to the 400 block of Lawson Road after receiving a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel transported the victim to UAB Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on February 14, 2026.

Investigators said McCall was later taken into custody at police headquarters. He has been formally charged with Murderand will be held without bond. Authorities confirmed he will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
