Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Collins; Officer Injured

Collins, MS (BuzzReport) — A late-night disturbance call escalated into a fatal officer-involved shooting Friday in Collins, leaving one individual dead and a police officer injured.

On February 13, officers with the Collins Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance involving an armed individual near Pine Avenue.

According to the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, officers encountered the subject upon arrival. Authorities say the individual approached law enforcement while armed, prompting officers to discharge their weapons.

The subject was struck during the exchange and sustained fatal injuries. One officer suffered minor injuries during the incident. No other injuries were reported.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead in reviewing the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Once the investigation is complete, officials said the findings will be submitted to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office for review.
