Semmes, AL (BuzzReport) – Semmes police officers made a significant drug trafficking arrest early Thursday morning after stopping a vehicle on Highway 158 and uncovering nearly five pounds of methamphetamine with the help of a K-9 unit.

According to the Semmes Police Department, the traffic stop occurred during the early hours of January 30 after officers observed a traffic violation. During the stop, K-9 Zero was deployed to conduct a free-air sniff of the vehicle. The highly trained canine quickly alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 4.5 pounds of methamphetamine, a quantity consistent with drug trafficking rather than personal use.

The driver, identified as Yoel Borrell, was taken into custody at the scene and charged with trafficking methamphetamine. He was transported to jail without incident.

Law enforcement officials praised the work of K-9 Zero, noting that the seizure likely prevented a large amount of illegal drugs from reaching the streets of the community.

The investigation remains ongoing.
