Chickasaw, AL (BuzzReport) — A Chickasaw man accused of a fatal shooting last month case sent to grand jury after a judge ruled there is enough evidence for the case to move forward.
Boris Steele is charged with murder in connection with the death of a 39-year-old man who was found December 23 near the intersection of West Lee Street and Geronimo Street. Authorities have not released the victim’s name pending further proceedings.
During a preliminary hearing, the judge determined that prosecutors presented sufficient evidence to advance the case, clearing the way for a grand jury to consider whether Steele should be formally indicted.
The shooting shook the Chickasaw community, drawing a visible law enforcement presence to the neighborhood as investigators worked through the holiday period to piece together what happened. Details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting have not yet been made public.
If the grand jury returns an indictment, the case would proceed to circuit court for arraignment and potential trial. Until then, Steele remains charged but not convicted, and is presumed innocent under the law.
Prosecutors say additional information may be released as the legal process continues.
