Birmingham, AL (BuzzReport) — In a quick and decisive response to a deadly act of violence, the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team has arrested a suspect in an East Birmingham homicide less than 48 hours after the crime occurred. BPD officials announced the arrest of 22-year-old Willie James Nixon of Birmingham, Alabama, in connection with the murder of Ayia Alexis Harris. The fatal incident took place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in the 7000 block of Division Avenue, sending shockwaves through the surrounding community. According to police, investigators worked around the clock to identify and locate the suspect. Their efforts culminated on Monday, January 26, 2026, when Nixon was taken into custody without incident in the 2900 block of Gallant Drive. Nixon has been formally charged with Murder and was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
