Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — Mobile police have made a second arrest in connection with a January shooting near Murphy High School that left a juvenile male seriously injured, authorities announced Wednesday.

Jai’Quan Ramsey, 19, was taken into custody Wednesday morning, January 21, 2026, and booked into Metro Jail at approximately 9:15 a.m. Investigators say Ramsey is the individual responsible for firing shots during the incident that unfolded on January 9 in the area of 100 S. Carlen Street.

Police were initially called to Murphy High School shortly before 9:00 p.m. on January 9 after reports of a person with a gun on campus. As officers arrived, they heard gunshots in the distance. Moments later, authorities learned that a juvenile male victim had already been transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

According to investigators, the violence began as a fight on S. Carlen Street and later spilled into the nearby Clearmont Street area. Police emphasized that while a basketball game at Murphy High School had ended shortly before the shooting, the incident did not occur during the game itself.

The arrest of Ramsey follows the earlier apprehension of Tyrese Moore, 19, who was taken into custody on Monday, January 12, 2026, after officers identified him as another individual who fired shots during the confrontation. Moore was also booked into Metro Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to piece together the sequence of events and determine whether additional charges or arrests are forthcoming. Authorities have not released the condition of the juvenile victim but confirmed the injuries were serious.

Police continue to urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward,
