Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A routine afternoon at a Mobile discount store was violently disrupted Thursday when a woman was assaulted and robbed in broad daylight, prompting a swift police response and two arrests.

According to authorities, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, to the Family Dollar located at 653 Stanton Road following reports of a robbery. When officers arrived, they learned that two women known to the victim had allegedly carried out the attack.

Police say the suspects physically assaulted the female victim, forcibly taking her purse and other personal belongings before fleeing the area on foot. Witnesses at the scene reportedly helped officers identify the suspects, allowing investigators to act quickly.

Following an investigation, Jamya Edwards, 26, and Myra Edwards, 41, were located and taken into custody without incident. Both were arrested and transported to Metro Jail, where they remain pending further legal proceedings.

The victim sustained injuries during the assault, though the extent of those injuries has not been released. Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive but confirmed the incident does not appear to be random.

The robbery has raised concerns among nearby shoppers and business owners, highlighting the risks of violent crime occurring in public spaces during peak daytime hours. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
