Brewton, AL (BuzzReport) — A tragic vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident claimed the life of a Brewton man Tuesday evening, as police simultaneously responded to a second pedestrian crash elsewhere in the city. On January 14, 2026, at approximately 5:07 p.m., officers with the Brewton Police Department were dispatched to South Boulevard near Bonehead Boots following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. When officers arrived, they found a male victim lying in the roadway as several bystanders attempted to render aid. Emergency responders from the Brewton Fire Department and D.W. McMillan EMS quickly arrived and began lifesaving efforts. The victim, later identified as Ebbie Lance Harman, 50, was transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital. Despite emergency medical care, Harman was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Traffic Homicide Investigators with the Brewton Police Department were called to the scene and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not yet released additional details, and the investigation remains ongoing. At nearly the same time, Brewton police were dispatched to a separate vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident on Alco Drive near College Drive. The victim in that incident, Jeffery Spears, 21, was also transported to D.W. McMillan Hospital. Police reported that Spears sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover. The near-simultaneous incidents left much of the community shaken, underscoring ongoing concerns about pedestrian safety on local roadways. The Brewton Police Department expressed its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Harman. “Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” officials said in a statement.
