Elberta, AL (BuzzReport) — A terrifying road rage incident that unfolded on a busy Baldwin County highway has led to the arrest of an Elberta man accused of firing a handgun into another vehicle and intentionally causing a collision, authorities said. According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report on Monday, December 1, 2025, of a violent encounter on U.S. Highway 98 near Lillian, Alabama. The reporting motorist told investigators that another driver had escalated the confrontation to a life-threatening level—brandishing a handgun and firing a shot into the victim’s vehicle while both cars were traveling at highway speed. The suspect was later identified as Alan Scott Coile, 68, a white male from Elberta, Alabama. Investigators say the danger did not end with the gunfire. The victim reported that Coile deliberately rammed his vehicle into the victim’s car while both were still in motion, placing everyone on the roadway at risk. Responding deputies confirmed damage to the victim’s vehicle, including a bullet hole consistent with the account given. Despite the severity of the incident, the victim escaped without injury. After weeks of investigation, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested Coile on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at his residence in Elberta. Authorities executed a search warrant at the home and seized Coile’s vehicle for evidence processing. Multiple handguns were also recovered from both the vehicle and the residence, officials confirmed. Coile has been charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Automobile, a serious felony offense, and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details and noted that the investigation remains ongoing.
