Mobile, ALMan Arrested After Foot Chase Following Traffic Stop in Mobile A routine traffic stop Monday night escalated into a brief foot pursuit that ended with the arrest of a Mobile man on multiple charges, according to law enforcement officials. On Monday, January 5, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle commit a traffic violation. As the vehicle came to a stop, an adult male passenger exited and fled the scene on foot, prompting officers to pursue. During the chase, officers say the suspect discarded a handgun and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Both items were recovered by police. The pursuit ended shortly thereafter, and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The individual was identified as JaJuan Averhart, 43. He was transported to Metro Jail, where he was booked on multiple charges, including illegal possession of a prescription drug, first-degree marijuana possession, attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of drug paraphernalia, certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm, and resisting arrest. No injuries were reported during the incident. The investigation remains ongoing, and all charges are allegations pending court proceedings.
