Pensacola, FL (BuzzReport) — Pensacola police are investigating after a body was discovered Wednesday afternoon near a Dumpster in the city’s downtown district. According to police spokesperson Mike Wood, officers responded on Dec. 31 to a report of a deceased individual found behind a building at the corner of Belmont and DeVilliers streets. The person, described as a transient, was located near a set of trash bins. Authorities said the cause of death was not immediately clear. Wood noted there were no obvious signs of foul play and that the death may have been the result of a medical emergency or exposure to cold temperatures. Witnesses in the area told the News Journal that the body was discovered by someone taking out the garbage, prompting an immediate call to police. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not released additional details at this time.
