Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A tense pursuit through the heart of Mobile ended Friday evening when a 22-year-old man evaded police, struck two vehicles, and was later arrested following a high-stakes confrontation on city streets. The incident, which unfolded in the historic downtown area, has left officers reviewing the aftermath and community members speculating about the driver’s motivations.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., law enforcement attempted to pull over a vehicle on Government Street near S. Catherine Street. According to reports, the driver accelerated instead of stopping, prompting a chase. Moments later, the vehicle ran a red light at the intersection of S. Catherine and Dauphin Streets, T-boning another car. The collision sent the struck vehicle into a controlled stop, sparing what could have been a far graver outcome. Its driver, who sustained minor injuries in the impact, was taken to a nearby hospital.

The fleeing vehicle then swerved into a Mobile Police Department (MPD) cruiser deployed to block its path. The deliberate maneuver, which crumpled the front of the police car, temporarily halted the suspect, who was observed limping as he exited the vehicle. Officers swiftly subdued him, administering first aid before transporting him to the same hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Deaundreay Lett was identified as the driver behind the wheel. After undergoing medical evaluation, he was taken into custody and booked into Metro Jail on charges expected to include reckless evasion, hit-and-run, and assault of a law enforcement officer. Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive, but investigators are examining the vehicle for evidence of premeditated resistance.

This is an ongoing investigation.
