The tragedy unfolded around 2:44 a.m. in the 5700 block of U.S. Highway 49. Emergency responders rushed to the scene where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled the area. Despite medical efforts, the individual succumbed to those injuries, marking a somber start to the day for the community.
