Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)  A Bay Minette man will spend the next three decades behind bars after admitting to sexually exploiting a 14-year-old girl and possessing hundreds of images of child pornography. Logan Allen Smith, 31, received the severe sentence from Chief U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Beaverstock, who emphasized the gravity of Smith’s crimes and the need to protect society from predatory behavior.

The case, which began with an investigation by the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, uncovered disturbing evidence of Smith’s interactions with the underage victim. Authorities arrested him in August 2023 and seized his cell phone, where they found explicit videos of the girl, along with approximately 600 additional child sexual abuse images.

Court documents revealed Smith had engaged in months of grooming, sending the girl messages that escalated from manipulative to overtly threatening. He wrote about meeting her, coercing her into trying on a bikini, and later warned her against speaking out. Investigators determined that Smith not only solicited illicit material but also distributed child pornography, further compounding his offenses.

In addition to the 30-year prison term, Judge Beaverstock ordered Smith to pay $7,220 in restitution to the victim—a sum calculated to cover future therapy costs. The judge mandated mental health and sex offender treatment during and after his incarceration. Once released, Smith will remain under supervised probation for 15 years, with strict monitoring conditions.

Homeland Security Investigations assisted in identifying and contacting the victim’s family, ensuring they received support services. Prosecutors emphasized the importance of federal intervention in such cases, where offenders exploit vulnerable minors through digital means.

The sentencing sends a clear message: those who prey on children will face severe legal consequences. Law enforcement officials urge parents to monitor their children’s online activity and report suspicious behavior immediately.

Smith will begin serving his sentence at a federal correctional facility, where he will be required to register as a sex offender upon release.
