Four Arrested in Prison Contraband Case at Fountain Correctional Facility

Atmore, Alabama (BuzzReport) – Four individuals are facing multiple felony charges after an alleged attempt to smuggle contraband into Fountain Correctional Facility was intercepted by law enforcement officials late Sunday evening. 

According to a news release from the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC), correctional staff at Fountain Correctional Facility (FCF) reported seeing a man throw a package over the perimeter fence at approximately 6:50 p.m. on November 26. Witnesses stated the suspect then entered a gray vehicle and left the area. 

ADOC officers quickly relayed a description of the suspect’s vehicle — including its license plate number — to Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies and K-9 agents. The vehicle was subsequently stopped along Interstate 65 southbound, near mile marker 32. 

Authorities say a search of the vehicle revealed seven cell phones and 221 grams of marijuana. Investigators believe the items were intended to be delivered to inmates inside FCF. 

The four individuals arrested in connection with the incident have been identified as Sylvia Turner, Shelby Turner, Jacory Mitchell, and Jayden Armstrong. Charges against them include: 

• Distribution of marijuana 
• Possession of marijuana in the first degree 
• Prohibited activity 
• Promoting prison contraband in both first and second degree

Promoting prison contraband is a serious offense under Alabama law, with first-degree charges applying to items that pose significant risks to institutional safety — such as controlled substances and unauthorized communication devices. 

The ADOC emphasized that the introduction of contraband into correctional facilities undermines security, fosters illegal activity among inmates, and endangers both staff and incarcerated individuals. 

“This arrest underscores our ongoing commitment to keeping contraband out of our facilities,” an ADOC spokesperson said in the release. “We will continue to work closely with local law enforcement agencies to intercept these dangerous items before they reach inmates.” 

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed. No court dates have yet been announced.
