PENSACOLA, FL (BuzzReport)— A multi-agency manhunt spanning two states concluded late Monday night when a man wanted on capital murder charges for the double-homicide of two teenagers in Alabama was successfully apprehended in Downtown Pensacola.

Edwin Hyde, 22, was located and taken into custody by a joint task force after the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) was alerted to the presence of the fugitive, who had an active warrant out of Wilcox County, Alabama.

Hyde is the prime suspect in the recent slayings of an 17-year-old and an 18-year-old whose bodies were recently discovered in Wilcox County, Alabama, both bearing fatal gunshot wounds. Due to the deaths of multiple victims, the charges filed in Alabama escalated to Capital Murder.

Rapid Apprehension Ends State-to-State Search

The collaborative effort to locate and arrest Hyde moved swiftly upon receiving intelligence that the suspect had crossed into Florida. The arrest operation, executed late Monday evening, involved significant coordination between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office led the local response, working in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Task Force, the State’s Attorney Office, and the Pensacola Police Department. The seamless cooperation among these agencies allowed authorities to quickly pinpoint Hyde’s location in the bustling area of Downtown Pensacola.

“When a suspect wanted for such a violent and heinous crime crosses into our jurisdiction, our priority is immediate, coordinated action,” stated a representative for the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. “The efficiency demonstrated by our partners, especially the U.S. Marshals, ensured this fugitive was taken off the streets without incident.”

Facing Extradition to Alabama

While the details surrounding the motive for the double-homicide remain under investigation by Alabama authorities, the focus now shifts to the legal process of returning Hyde to face trial.

Edwin Hyde is currently being held in the Escambia County Jail in Pensacola. He will face extradition proceedings—standard procedure for suspects arrested in Florida with active warrants in another state.

Once the legal paperwork is finalized, Hyde will be transferred back to Wilcox County, Alabama, where he will stand trial for the Capital Murder charges related to the deaths of the two teenagers. The arrest brings critical closure to the initial manhunt and moves the case into the judicial phase in Alabama.
