The victim, an adult male whose identity has not yet been released, died from his injuries shortly after being transported to a local hospital.

The incident was reported just before 4:30 p.m. Sunday, according to authorities.

Mobile Police Department spokesman Officer Roderick Miles confirmed that officers were dispatched to the residential area following reports of an altercation involving a weapon. The scene remains an active investigation late Sunday evening.

The victim was quickly transported for emergency medical treatment but succumbed to his wounds at the facility, Miles confirmed.

Acquaintances Involved, Motive Unknown

Crucially, Officer Miles noted that the fatal incident did not appear to be a random act of violence.

“The victim and the suspect knew each other,” Miles told reporters, stressing that investigators are focusing on the dynamic between the two individuals.

However, the precise motive for the stabbing remains a mystery to police at this preliminary stage. “It is unclear what led to the stabbing,” Miles stated, adding that investigators are currently gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the sequence of events.

As of Sunday evening, police have not confirmed whether a suspect is in custody, nor have they released the name of the deceased pending the notification of family members. The investigation into the homicide is ongoing and is being led by the MPD’s Major Crimes Unit.

Police urge anyone with information regarding the stabbing in the 7500 block of Old Pascagoula Road to contact the Mobile Police Department.
