Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – A Tuesday morning outing quickly turned violent at a west Mobile grocery store when a man was forcibly robbed of his backpack by an individual he reportedly knew, leading to a scuffle and a rapid police capture.

Mobile Police Department (MPD) officers were dispatched to the Winn-Dixie located at 5440 Highway 90 shortly after 8:10 a.m. yesterday, September 30, 2025, following reports of a robbery in progress.

According to MPD reports, an adult male victim met with officers upon arrival and stated that a known acquaintance had forcibly seized his backpack. When the victim attempted to fight back and regain control of his property, the subject allegedly assaulted him before fleeing the scene on foot.

The incident is classified as Robbery 3rd degree due to the use of force during the commission of the theft.

Despite the struggle, law enforcement’s response time proved critical. Officers quickly established a perimeter, and the suspect, identified as LaBarron Young, 37, was located and detained a short distance away from the grocery store without further incident.

The victim sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries during the confrontation but refused medical attention at the scene.

Young was subsequently transported to Metro jail and booked on charges related to the incident. Authorities are investigating the nature of the relationship between Young and the victim, which reportedly contributed to the tense early morning encounter.
