Moss Point, MS (BuzzReport) – A violent incident on Donovan Street Monday night has resulted in the death of Richard McBride, a 61-year-old longtime resident and two-time former mayoral candidate in Moss Point. The shooting, which occurred around 8 p.m., also left another individual injured.

According to Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight, McBride was involved in a shootout with another man. Both individuals sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. McBride was admitted to Singing River Hospital, where he succumbed to a single gunshot wound at approximately 8:15 p.m., as confirmed by Jackson County Coroner Bruce Lynd.

The identity of the second individual involved in the shootout is currently being withheld by authorities. Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine the events that led to the exchange of gunfire and to establish fault.

Richard McBride was a familiar face in Moss Point politics, having run for the office of mayor in both 2021 and, more recently, in the 2025 election cycle. His death marks a tragic loss for the community and adds a somber note to the ongoing public discourse.
