MOBILE, AL (BuzzReport) – A 41-year-old Mobile man found himself behind bars early Friday morning after an alleged attempt to steal approximately $750 worth of merchandise from a local Walmart Supercenter was thwarted by quick-acting authorities.

James Satterfield, 41, was arrested and transported to Metro Jail following an incident at the Walmart Supercenter located at 685 Schillinger Road South. Officers were dispatched to the store on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at approximately 10:10 p.m., in response to a report of a retail theft in progress.

According to Mobile Police Department reports, uniformed officers arrived swiftly at the scene. They were able to locate and detain the suspect, identified as Satterfield, without further incident. Initial investigations revealed that Satterfield had allegedly concealed a substantial amount of unpaid merchandise, estimated to be around $750 in value. The specifics of the items were not immediately released, but sources indicate a mix of electronics and other consumer goods.

Detectives from the Mobile Police Department responded to the Walmart location to process the scene and gather further evidence. Retail theft, particularly of this value, is classified as a serious offense in Alabama, with “Retail Theft 2nd Degree” often applied to cases involving merchandise between $500 and $2,500.

Satterfield was booked into Metro Jail and is expected to face charges related to Retail Theft 2nd Degree. He awaits his first court appearance, where a judge will set his bond and formal charges will be read.
