Okaloosa County, FL, (BuzzReport)- What began as a frightening road rage encounter on Beach Drive in Destin escalated into a tense scene in a church parking lot—and ended with the suspect in handcuffs.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Robert Hasker was arrested after allegedly pursuing a female motorist and confronting her outside Destin United Methodist Church at 200 Beach Drive. According to deputies, the incident left several bystanders shaken, but community members acted quickly and prevented what could have been a far more dangerous outcome.

Authorities say the female driver reported that Hasker, dressed in a trench coat, followed her vehicle into the church lot. Witnesses described him leaping from his car and rushing toward her, striking her window repeatedly while ordering her to step outside. Terrified, the victim remained inside her vehicle until help arrived.

Among those who stepped in was the church’s preschool program director. Witnesses say the director confronted Hasker directly, insisting he leave the property. Instead of retreating, Hasker allegedly lashed out, physically battering the staff member.

By this point, multiple 911 calls had reached dispatch. Deputies arrived within minutes and spotted Hasker attempting to drive away. His escape was cut short when patrol units quickly boxed in his vehicle. He was arrested without further incident.

Hasker now faces a string of charges, including assault, battery, and trespassing on school property. Deputies emphasize that while no children were harmed, the confrontation took place within feet of a preschool facility, heightening the seriousness of the situation.

Sheriff’s Office officials commended the citizens who intervened, calling their actions both courageous and pivotal in de-escalating the encounter until law enforcement arrived.

The investigation remains ongoing, with deputies continuing to review witness statements and surveillance footage from the church property.
