Mobile, AL (BuzzReport)— A late-night traffic hazard call turned into a pursuit and arrest early Saturday morning when officers with the Mobile Police Department encountered a suspicious vehicle on Spanish Trail Court.

According to authorities, just after 2:00 a.m. on September 6, officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of Spanish Trail Court following reports of a vehicle parked on the roadside in a manner that posed a traffic hazard. When they arrived, officers observed a man emerging from the vehicle.

Police say the individual, later identified as 20-year-old Gage Caviness, immediately fled on foot as officers approached. Following a brief pursuit, Caviness was taken into custody and transported to Metro Jail.

Investigators determined the car in question had been left unlocked on the side of the road. Police allege that Caviness unlawfully entered the vehicle before their arrival.

While no injuries were reported, authorities emphasized the importance of securing vehicles to deter similar incidents. “Unlocked cars remain one of the easiest opportunities for opportunistic crimes,” the Mobile Police Department noted in a statement.

Caviness now faces charges related to unlawful entry of a vehicle. The case remains under investigation, and additional charges could be considered as evidence is reviewed.
