PASCAGOULA, MS (BuzzReport) – Authorities have swiftly apprehended a Mobile man suspected in a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this morning at Ingalls Shipbuilding. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Curtis James Jr. of Mobile, was taken into custody following the incident that claimed the life of another employee.

Ingalls Shipbuilding officials, in conjunction with the Pascagoula Police Department, held a press conference Friday afternoon to provide details on the deadly event. Officials confirmed the victim, a resident of Prichard whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, succumbed to their injuries on Friday.

The investigation has revealed that the shooting was an isolated incident, occurring on a ship within the expansive shipyard between two employees. Officials further disclosed that an argument between James and the victim had reportedly transpired earlier in the week.

While the official motive remains under active investigation, a source familiar with both the victim and the suspect indicated the dispute allegedly stemmed from a disagreement “over a female.”

A critical question currently being explored by investigators is how James managed to introduce a firearm into the heavily secured Ingalls Shipbuilding facility. This aspect is now a central part of the broader, ongoing investigation.

Police and Ingalls Shipbuilding officials confirmed the investigation is active and pledged to release additional details as more information becomes available.
