ST. MARTIN, MS (BuzzReport) – A terrifying ordeal for an Alabama woman culminated in a dramatic escape and the swift apprehension of her alleged abductor at a local gas station, thanks to the victim’s courage and the decisive action of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department. On Thursday, July 31, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m., deputies responded to a distress call at the Circle K Gas Station in St. Martin. Upon arrival, law enforcement personnel encountered a victim who detailed a harrowing account of being kidnapped from her residence in Alabama and subjected to sexual assault across multiple jurisdictions. The victim bravely seized an opportunity to escape her alleged captor, later identified as her ex-boyfriend Melvin Hill, by fleeing into the convenience store and alerting employees to her desperate situation. Her quick thinking and courageous actions were instrumental in bringing the ordeal to an end. As deputies secured the scene, they observed Hill attempting to flee back towards Alabama. Officers swiftly intervened, taking Hill into custody without incident. Melvin Hill was transported to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department’s Adult Detention Center. He has been formally charged with one count of Kidnapping, one count of Motor Vehicle Theft, and one count of Sexual Battery. Investigators confirm that additional charges in neighboring jurisdictions, where the alleged sexual assaults occurred, are forthcoming as the multi-state investigation progresses. Hill is expected to make an Initial Appearance before Jackson County Judge Mark Watts in the coming days, where he will be formally advised of the charges against him.
