Jackson, MS (BuzzReport) – A devastating incident unfolded at the Westwood Apartments in Jackson on Thursday afternoon, leaving one woman dead following a standoff with law enforcement. Multiple agencies, including the Jackson Police Department, Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, Byram Police Department, Clinton Police Department, and Capitol Police, responded to the scene after reports of an active shooter.

According to Chief Joseph Wade, the situation began as a domestic dispute between the suspect and the victim, who was his wife and worked at the apartment complex. The suspect, with blood on his shirt, barricaded himself in the leasing office and fired shots, prompting a massive law enforcement response.

Tragically, the victim lost her life during the standoff. Chief Wade expressed his sorrow, stating, “It was a domestic situation. It was his wife. She worked here at this location. He came to this location and took her life.” He added, “I wish we could have done more to prevent this, but we don’t have people who know how to deal with their emotions.”

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Jackson Police headquarters for questioning. Hostage negotiators from various departments were on hand during the standoff.

This is an ongoing investigation.
