HUNTSVILLE, Ala. —A tense standoff between law enforcement and a suspect came to an end late Sunday night in downtown Huntsville. Matthew Allan Clark, 33, of Woodstock, Georgia, was taken into custody after a dramatic sequence of events that unfolded in the 200 block of Exchange Place. According to Huntsville Police, officers responded to a report of a possible shooting around 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a man who had been shot with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim was promptly transported to the hospital for medical attention. As officers began investigating the scene, they learned the shooter may have fled into a nearby building. Utilizing a police drone to scour the area, authorities spotted a man matching the suspect’s description on the rooftop, armed and potentially volatile. With the area secured, specialized units including SWAT and the Crisis Response and Negotiations Team were deployed to manage the situation. After a period of negotiations, Clark agreed to surrender, bringing the standoff to a peaceful conclusion. Clark was arrested and taken to jail, facing charges of first-degree assault. This incident remains under ongoing investigation as authorities work to piece together the events surrounding the shooting.
