BAY MINETTE, AL (BuzzReport) – The race for Mayor of Bay Minette is officially in full gear with the entry of local business professional Joshua Brown, who has officially announced his candidacy. A lifelong resident of Bay Minette, Brown is campaigning on a platform centered on economic revitalization, enhanced public safety, and robust youth initiatives, promising a transformational leadership approach for the city. Brown brings over a decade of experience in business development and technology, including his roles at Local IT, LLC, and JBB Consulting, LLC. He asserts that his platform is built on SMART economic goals—Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely objectives—addressing what he describes as a concerning “0% net economic growth from 2013 to 2023” under the current administration. Brown specifically cited the departure of established businesses like Standard Furniture as an example where new ventures have merely offset losses. “It’s time for fresh ideas and bold, business-minded solutions,” Brown declared. His proposed administration would prioritize strengthening existing local businesses and aggressively attracting new industries to foster job creation. This strategy would leverage city resources and partnerships with entities such as the North Baldwin Chamber and the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance (BCEDA). A key economic initiative includes hiring dedicated staff and forming a committee specifically tasked with securing grant funding for workforce development, aiming to fully utilize underutilized resources like the Career Tech Center for the benefit of all residents. When asked about his motivation to run, Brown stated, “The ‘why’ is simple and straightforward. I am a lifelong resident of Bay Minette, and I’ve seen the beauty, potential, stagnation, and decline in Bay Minette over the past 12 years.” He emphasized the urgent need for “change” to move the city towards growth and safety, underscoring the importance of “investing in our communities, businesses, and most importantly our youth.” Brown affirmed his commitment to active civic engagement, noting, “I’ve helped in other capacities throughout the city, but if you want a specific change to happen you have to be a willing vessel to make it.” He concluded by stating, “I’m running to serve all of the people of Bay Minette. To be transparent in leadership and let the people know that they are heard.” Addressing another critical concern, Brown highlighted a “dramatic rise in Bay Minette’s crime rate over the past 20 months.” He pledged to create a “safer, stronger, and more vibrant city” by addressing the root causes of violence and ensuring comprehensive community security. His commitment extends to the city’s youth, promising to “develop new initiatives and safe spaces” beyond traditional sports, including improvements to facilities like the Douglasville gym and promoting programs for scholarships. Infrastructure and transparency are also central to Brown’s comprehensive vision. He committed to “beautifying and revitalizing our city,” directly addressing widespread flooding issues and prioritizing improvements to roads and utilities. He further pledged “transparent leadership” and enhanced communication, vowing to utilize modern tools like social media videos and mass texting to ensure all citizens are engaged and informed. Joshua Brown invites the community to join his official campaign kick-off event on Saturday, July 12th, at the Douglasville Pavilion. “Join me in building a safer, stronger, and more prosperous Bay Minette – a city where fresh ideas, economic growth, and robust youth initiatives will pave the way for a brighter future for every citizen,” he concluded. Bay Minette municipal election will be held on Tuesday, August 26.
