From Missing Person to Attempted Murder: Investigation Unfolds

Toxey, AL (BuzzReport) – A concerning case that began with a missing person report in Choctaw County has taken a serious turn. On June 17, 2025, the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing person in the Toxey area. The individual, Mark Edward Martin, was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) as a missing person, and a BOLO alert was issued.

Investigation and Search Efforts

Sheriff’s deputies made efforts to locate Mr. Martin, including contacting regional hospitals and correctional facilities. As the investigation progressed, deputies conducted interviews with known associates of Mr. Martin and gathered information that led them to the residence of William David Carter on Shiloh Road in Toxey.

A lawfully obtained search warrant was executed at the property, resulting in the discovery of narcotics and drug paraphernalia. William David Carter was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Discovery of Mark Edward Martin

The following day, investigators used cellular forensics to ping Mr. Martin’s phone, leading them to obtain a second search warrant. During the search, deputies encountered a rattlesnake and discharged their firearms to neutralize the threat. It was then that they heard a voice cry out for help, which was later identified as Mark Edward Martin.

Mr. Martin was found severely injured, appeared to have been cut, and was left for dead. Due to the extent of his injuries, he was unable to see and called out blindly for help. Mr. Martin was immediately transported to a medical facility for emergency treatment, where he remains under care.

New Charges for William David Carter

As a result of the ongoing investigation, William David Carter now faces additional charges, including attempted murder and assault in the first degree. He remains in custody at the Clarke County Jail.
