Creola Man, Convicted Sex Offender, Arrested for Alleged Attempted Rape of Teen

Creola, AL (BuzzReport) – A chilling incident has shaken the quiet town of Creola, with the arrest of a convicted sex offender accused of attempting to rape a teenage girl. Jeremiah McDougal, 30, was apprehended early Monday morning after police responded to a disturbance call at a residence on Highway 43.

According to Creola Police Chief Shane Stringer, officers arrived on the scene just after midnight and were met with the sound of screams emanating from inside the home. Upon entering, they allegedly found McDougal in the act of assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

“We don’t typically see these kind of cases here in Creola,” Chief Stringer stated. “It’s, you know, a very quiet town. And we take pride in that.”

Officers intervened to stop the assault, but McDougal reportedly resisted arrest before being taken into custody. The circumstances surrounding the encounter between McDougal and the victim remain under investigation. Chief Stringer indicated that authorities are exploring possibilities of the two meeting online or through employment.

The arrest has raised concerns due to McDougal’s prior criminal history. He is a registered sex offender, having pleaded guilty to a previous rape charge in 2022 and receiving a 20-year sentence. Details regarding the specifics of his time served and subsequent release are currently being sought from the District Attorney’s office. McDougal is currently listed on the ALEA (Alabama Law Enforcement Agency) Offender List for his previous conviction.

“I know he’s got a history of these type cases and violent offenses also,” Chief Stringer said, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. “So, you know, I’m sure that the DA’s office is going to work hard to make sure that this dangerous individual stays in jail.”

McDougal now faces a total of six charges, including attempted rape, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and resisting arrest. He is currently being held in Metro Jail without bond, pending a bond hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning.
