Woman Arrested in Connection with Wilmer Shooting Death

Wilmer, AL (BuzzReport) – The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a woman in connection with a shooting that occurred in Wilmer. Velma Edwards-Nix, 62, was taken into custody and charged with murder after deputies responded to a reported shooting at a home in the 14000 block of Mort Road on Tuesday night.

According to authorities, deputies found Andre Griffin, 58, deceased inside the residence with a gunshot wound to the head. Edwards-Nix, who reportedly lived with Griffin, was arrested after telling deputies that she shot Griffin in self-defense, claiming he had attempted to choke her. After the shooting, Edwards-Nix ran to a neighbor’s home, where 911 was called.
