Pool Contractor Swims in Stolen Cash: Sentenced to 20 Years for $600,000+ Theft

Madison County, AL (BuzzReport) – A former pool contractor from Muscle Shoals, Gregory Kirk, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple property crimes including theft, forgery, and fraudulent credit card use, Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced on Tuesday. Kirk is accused of stealing over $600,000 from consumers across Madison County.

Marshall’s office revealed that Kirk was indicted on a total of 18 counts, including 14 counts of first-degree theft of property, one count of second-degree theft of property, criminal possession of a forged instrument, forgery, and fraudulent use of a debit or credit card.

The Attorney General emphasized the significant impact Kirk’s actions had on his victims. “Several consumers entrusted Kirk with large sums of money, hoping to build their dream pools. Instead, they were met with heartbreak. He betrayed their trust, deceived them, and stole their hard-earned savings,” Marshall stated. “Hopefully, those victims can find solace in the knowledge that he is finally being held accountable.”

According to the investigation, Kirk would take substantial deposits from clients promising to construct pools, but failed to complete the work or deliver the promised services. He then allegedly used the funds for personal gain, leaving numerous families with unfinished projects and significant financial losses.

“This conviction sends a clear message: those who exploit hardworking families and betray their trust will face justice,” Marshall declared. “Our office remains committed to standing up for consumers and protecting them from fraud and deception.”

Kirk’s sentences will run concurrently as part of a plea agreement reached with the State. The Attorney General’s Consumer Interest Division, in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, worked diligently on this case to ensure justice was served for the victims of Kirk’s fraudulent scheme.
