Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) – The Mobile Police Department announced the termination of Detective Gary Rogers, effective immediately, following an internal investigation. The investigation’s findings led to the decision to fire Rogers, although the department has not publicly disclosed the specific reasons behind the termination.

The firing comes approximately four months after a formal complaint was lodged against Rogers. The complaint stems from an incident in November when Rogers’ 17-year-old son, Dawson Rogers, was involved in a fatal car accident on Lott Road. Dawson Rogers was driving at high speed and allegedly under the influence when his vehicle collided with another car driven by Nolan McDavid, a University of South Alabama student and member of the film society. McDavid tragically lost his life in the crash.

A witness who filed the complaint alleged that Detective Rogers’ actions at the scene were inappropriate. Dawson Rogers was subsequently arrested and indicted on a charge of extreme indifference murder.

While Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood was aware of the complaint against Detective Rogers, it remains unclear whether the termination is directly connected to the complaint or the internal investigation’s findings.

Detective Rogers was off duty at the time of the accident. The Mobile Police Department has thus far declined to comment further on the specifics surrounding Rogers’ termination.
