Bay Minette, AL (BuzzReport) – A 46-year-old female inmate, Venus Watts, died while in custody at the Baldwin County Jail, prompting an investigation by the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit. According to Bay Minette Police Chief Al Tolbert, Watts was found unresponsive on May 27 by correctional staff, who immediately initiated lifesaving efforts. Despite these attempts, Watts was pronounced dead. Preliminary findings suggest no foul play is suspected, but the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are awaiting the final autopsy results to determine the official cause of death. Watts had been incarcerated for approximately two days on an outstanding warrant from Okaloosa County, Florida. The investigation remains under review pending the conclusion of the autopsy report. The Bay Minette Police Department is working to ensure a thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding Watts’ death.
