Prichard, AL – A violent altercation at the Dollar General store on St. Stephens Road in Prichard left two individuals shot on Sunday morning. According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 9:31 am at the store located at 1645 St Stephens Road. The investigation revealed that the altercation began when Teron Curtis returned to the store at 9:15 am, reportedly angry over a dispute regarding his earlier purchase. Witnesses stated that Curtis threatened the cashier, claiming she had not given him what he bought, and vowed to return with his girlfriend to “handle the problem.” The situation escalated when Curtis and his girlfriend, Lakenya Russell, returned to the store along with a family member of the cashier who had been called for assistance. An altercation ensued between Curtis, Russell, the cashier, and the family member. During the altercation, the family member shot Curtis and Russell. Both Curtis and Russell fled the scene and drove themselves to a local hospital for treatment. The family member, meanwhile, remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities, placing her gun down and waiting for police to arrive. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and conducted interviews with witnesses and employees. Detectives also visited the hospital to interview Curtis and Russell, with Russell undergoing surgery and Curtis being treated for his injuries. No arrests were made at the scene, and the case has been turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for review. The investigation is ongoing, with surveillance footage corroborating witness accounts of the altercation.
