Gulfport, MS (BuzzReport) – A death investigation is currently underway in Gulfport after a body was discovered floating in Bayou Bernard on Monday afternoon. According to the Gulfport Police Department, the body was reported by a boater around 1 p.m. Responding to the scene, the Gulfport Fire Department and the Department of Marine Resources assisted police in recovering the body. Three boats were deployed at the Gulfport Lake Boat Launch around 2 p.m., and the body was brought ashore approximately an hour later. Gulfport Police Chief Adam Cooper stated that detectives at the scene did not observe any obvious signs of foul play, but investigators are not ruling out the possibility. Chief Cooper noted that the body appeared to have been submerged in the water for several days and could not be immediately identified. The cause of death will be determined after an autopsy is conducted. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify the individual and determine the circumstances surrounding their death.
