FLORENCE, Ala. — A Lauderdale County write-in candidate for sheriff was arrested Tuesday morning after Florence police accused him of repeatedly calling a medical facility, threatening employees and disrupting the facility’s telephone operations.

Curtis Brian Webber, 58, of Florence, who is running for Lauderdale County sheriff under the write-in name Brian O’Brien Webber, was taken into custody on Election Day, November 3, 2026.

According to police, Webber allegedly made an excessive number of calls to a medical facility, with investigators reporting that he sometimes placed more than 80 calls within a 90-minute period. The repeated calls allegedly tied up the facility’s phone lines, interfering with its ability to conduct normal business.

Authorities also accused Webber of making threats against employees during the calls, prompting a police investigation into the reported conduct.

The arrest took place at a Jack’s restaurant on Cloverdale Road in Florence, where officers located Webber Tuesday morning.

The incident has drawn attention because of Webber’s candidacy for Lauderdale County sheriff, a position responsible for overseeing the county’s law enforcement operations, jail administration and public safety efforts.

The allegations raise questions about the circumstances surrounding the calls and the reported threats against medical facility employees. However, the specific nature of the alleged threats, the identity of the medical facility and the formal charges Webber faces were not immediately provided in the information available.

Webber’s arrest occurred as voters across Alabama headed to the polls for Election Day.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information may be released as the case moves forward.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
