Good Samaritan Killed While Helping After Crash At I-10 Exit Ramp And Highway 90

Mobile, AL (BuzzReport) — A late-night multi-vehicle crash turned deadly Saturday after a man who stopped to help another driver was struck by a passing vehicle and later died at a local hospital. The driver accused of striking the victim reportedly fled the scene, and the incident remains under investigation.

According to preliminary information, officers responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, to a traffic accident at the intersection of the Interstate 10 exit ramp and Highway 90 South. The crash involved multiple vehicles, including one vehicle that overturned and came to rest on its roof.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim lying in the roadway with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators determined that the initial crash occurred when a driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and continue onto Highway 90 South. The vehicle struck a guardrail before overturning.

Two other vehicles stopped at the scene to assist the driver, who appeared to have sustained minor injuries. However, the situation took another tragic turn when a passing vehicle struck the two stopped vehicles.

During the incident, Jayan Patel, 45, was outside his vehicle attempting to help the other driver when he was struck by the passing vehicle. Despite being transported to a hospital for emergency medical treatment, Patel did not survive his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the stopped vehicles and Patel left the scene, according to the preliminary investigation. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the identity of that driver or whether an arrest has been made.

Information surrounding the deadly collision remain under investigation as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events and identify the driver who fled.
